Tom Lees is Sheffield Wednesday’s only ever-present player so far this season – and Carlos Carvalhal has a good reason for that.
Over the six matches so far this season, Carvalhal has used 21 starting players due to his predilection for keeping his team fresh.
Other than Lees, only Alex Lopez has started more than three consecutive matches across league and cup during the first month of the campaign.
While Lees was always likely to be a talismanic player for the Owls this season, Carvalhal says he has first hand knowledge that centre halves are better equipped to deal with a busy fixture calendar.
And that has so far left Lees exempt from rotation.
“We don’t player doing three matches continuous,” the Portuguese said.
“The exception is the central defenders.
“I played centre half in my career and I think this kind of players can better control the situation.
“We don’t need to move these type of players in and out.”
