SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY: Bothroyd to return to QPR

Have your say

OWLS manager Dave Jones today revealed that Jay Bothroyd will not be extending his Hillsborough stay after his loan ends on Wednesday.

QPR are calling back the striker as they bid to fight their way off the bottom of the Premier League.

Jones said: “If you look at the situation they’re in, they’ll be looking at strikers and goalscorers.

“To be honest, he hasn’t had the best of times here; he’s had a good spell and a bad spell; that can happen.

“I spoke to him today. QPR will call him back because they’re struggling, and they’re not going to help somebody else when they’re struggling themselves.

“He has all the ability in the world; he should be plying his trade at the highest level.

“Sometimes Jay..maybe his workrate and attitude..he allows his disappointment to overtake what he should be doing. Because he gets down and disappointed because either he’s not performed well or the people around him aren’t performing well, he can lose focus. That can happen to any player.

“Certainly the people here didn’t see the best of him by a long way; I’m sure he would agree with that.”

Jones also revealed that Wednesday have appealed to the FA against the booking that was awarded to Michail Antonio instead of Jeremy Helan at Huddersfield on Saturday, on the grounds of mistaken identity.

Wednesday have offered a new contract to Liam Palmer, whose loan at Tranmere expires this week. and whose current Hillsborough deal runs out next summer. Tranmere want to keep him on loan for the rest of the season.
