Sheffield Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay has thanked Owls fans for sticking by the team throughout the ups and downs of a largely disappointing campaign.
Wednesday secured a 15th-placed finish after recording and impressive six victories from their last nine Championship matches, including a 5-1 hammering of Norwich City.
But Luhukay's predecessor Carlos Carvalhal paid the price for a below-par season with his job on Christmas Eve, and Luhukay was a left-field choice to replace the Portuguese back in January.
And the Dutchman said: “It was not easy but our fans always stayed behind the team, behind the players and that’s why I never had a nervous situation when we were seven or eight points from the bottom three.
“The fans created a lot of important situations for the team. They stayed with the players in a difficult period.
“When you don’t play very well or you don’t get the results but the fans stay with you, I have a lot of respect for that.”
