Sheffield Wednesday boss Garry Monk lays down 'Maradona challenge'

Though he’ll be busy planning the way forward for Sheffield Wednesday, Owls boss, Garry Monk, has laid down a Diego Maradona challenge.

The Wednesday manager, who is also the co-founder of online measuring resource, Soccer Profile, hasn’t been in the public eye much since football was brought to a standstill in March, but was sporting a new look as he asked footballers to get involved in a skills challenge during the lockdown period.

Monk says he wants to see ‘your interpretation of the iconic Diego Maradona warm-up from the UEFA Cup semifinal from 1989’, with the winner receiving a £100 voucher to spend on themselves as reward.

Wednesday had a season of two halves in Monk’s debut campaign at Hillsborough, starting like a house on fire at the end of 2019 as they looked to be in with a chance of promotion before getting off to a terrible start to 2020 prior to games being halted two months ago.

Meanwhile, with the club having players working remotely, Owls stars such as Fernando Forestieri and Moses Odubajo have taken to social media to show the sort of workouts they’ve been up to in order to make sure they’re in the best shape possible whenever football is given the green light to start up again – with suggestions that a ‘tipping point’ could be reached next week.
