Sam Hutchinson is set for a spell on the sidelines after Carlos Carvalhal, his Sheffield Wednesday manager, revealed the versatile star needs to undergo knee surgery.
Hutchinson was reported to have suffered from illness which kept him out of Wednesday's defeat at Derby last weekend, having recovered from a knee injury to play a part in the loss at Bolton Wanderers the week before.
But he was again absent from the teamsheet for this afternoon's South Yorkshire derby at home to Barnsley, which ended 1-1, and Carvalhal revealed afterwards that the former Chelsea man was scheduled for a knee operation.
When quizzed how long that meant Hutchinson would be on the sidelines for, Carvalhal admitted he was unsure.
Earlier, Carvalhal had watched his Owls side take a deserved lead against their near neighbours through a freak finish from Adam Reach, but Paul Heckingbottom's men battled back to earn a point thanks to Harvey Barnes' cracker.
Barnsley's former Owls goalkeeper Adam Davies rescued Barnsley with a couple of great saves and referee Anthony Taylor disallowed a goal for the visitors, but neither side could do enough to take all three points.
