The 24-year-old has been a revelation at centre-half since the injury to club captain Tom Lees in August and received a whopping 62 per cent of votes from fans after narrowly missing out to Morgan Fox last month.

And Bannan, who has been full of praise for former Wolves man Iorfa since he signed for the Hillsborough club in January, described him as the club’s most in-form player.

“He's brilliant,” Bannan said. “I said it earlier on in the season as well, since he's come in and played centre-half he's been unbelievable, he's like a man mountain.

“He's driven us forward, he's made box headers.

“He's at the top of his game at the minute.”

Having initially played much of his football for Wednesday at right-back, Iorfa finds himself as the leading man in a three-way battle for selection in the heart of the Owls defence with skipper Tom Lees and Julian Börner.

Iorfa is a former England youth international at under-18, under-20 and under-21 level and aged just 24, Bannan says it is up to him how far he goes in the game.

The Scot said: “You can see what a great athlete he is, he's still a young boy and he's only going to get better,.

“He's got the attributes to go and make a great career for himself.”
