Exclusive:What Sheffield Wednesday will take from Anthony Musaba deal after big-money switch

Sheffield Wednesday will receive a financial benefit from Anthony Musaba's big-money switch over in Turkey, The Star understand.

The Dutchman left Hillsborough as part of a summer exodus made necessary by the club's spiralling fortunes financially in Dejphon Chansiri's final months in charge of the club. He made the switch to Turkish Süper Lig side Samsunspor and hit the ground running with 10 direct goal involvements in his 22 appearances.

His time there proved short with giant top-tier side Fenerbahçe SK moving fast to take the former Owls attacker in January. His debut this week came against his former side and saw him claim two assists as his new club secured a place in the TFF Super Cup final.

News of Musaba's move - which was reportedly worth somewhere in the region of €6m after his South Yorkshire exit was reported to have been to the tune of €1m just a few months ago - sparked interest from Wednesday fans keen to discover whether the Owls had installed a sell-on clause into the arrangement.

The Star understands that Wednesday did have a sell-on clause in the deal, though the figure the Owls ultimately take away from the sale remains to be seen. One source pins the sell-on percentage at 10 per cent of any profit made by Sansumspor, though it's understood that any figure would depend on the structure of the deal.

It remains unclear how much of the reported €6m fee is wound up in incentive and or bonus tie-ups, which would stand to reduce the payment owed to Wednesday. The standard practice is that the Owls will only receive any funds once they have cleared to Sansumspor, meaning that if the deal is subject to instalment payments, the fee would effectively be drip-fed to Wednesday over a period of time.

Musaba scored 12 goals and contributed 11 assists to Wednesday over two seasons and 80 appearances.
