Sheffield Wednesday aiming to right wrongs and show 'best version' against Doncaster Rovers
It’s matchday for SWFC
The Owls are aiming to right the wrongs from their last match when they take on Doncaster Rovers.
Sheffield Wednesday make the short hop across South Yorkshire on Saturday afternoon aiming to bounce back from a bitterly disappointing defeat to Notts County on Tuesday night. Henrik Pedersen’s side were well below-par at Meadow Lane but they have a chance to ‘learn’ and ‘grow’ from it against Rovers, says manager Pedersen.
Wednesday came up short in the duels against County and that is one area they will have to get right against a local rival and a lively atmosphere.
“To compete in League One you need to have the basics, and when we have the basics, then we are very strong, then we can bring all the other things to the basics, and then we can win a lot of games in League One,” Pedersen said. “We are all aligned for this, and that's why we're looking forward to the game tomorrow and and make our next step.
“We were all frustrated after the game when you don't feel you use your potential and the best version of yourself and don't show the standard you want. But we go through that all together, and we will learn from it, and then we will grow from this.”
Rovers are 19th in League One and have lost their last two but Notts were also struggling before Tuesday night so Wednesday can’t afford to be complacent again.
“It will be a tough derby,” Pedersen added. “It will be an intensive derby. It's a team who can play very direct, but can also really be strong in possession. It will be a a test for our pressing game, for how to handle the direct long balls, the intensity, and also when they have strong positional phases because here they are also very strong. Generally it will be a very intensive game. It will be a game where all the basics again will be needed and here we have to be strong.”
