Sheffield Wednesday will host relegated Aston Villa on the opening weekend of the 2016/17 season.

The Owls, beaten in the Championship Play-Off final last month, welcome Villa to Hillsborough on Sunday, August 7, kick-off 4:30pm. It will be the first meeting between the two clubs since 2001 and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

Wednesday travel to Norwich City for their first away match on August 13. Three days later, Carlos Carvalhal's men head to Burton Albion, who are set to play in the second-tier for the first time in their history after finishing runners-up in League One.

Owls entertain Yorkshire rivals Leeds United on August 20 before rounding off the opening month with a trip to Brentford.

Carvalhal's side will play seven matches in December, including home tests with Preston North End (3), newly-promoted Barnsley (13) and Rotherham United (17).

Also over the Christmas period, Wednesday go to Newcastle United on Boxing Day and are then away to Preston North End on New Year's Eve.

The Owls host Fulham on the final day of the season on May 7.
