The Owls could move into the play-offs with victory against the Dons, who are without a win in their last five and have failed to keep a clean sheet in the league all season.

Today’s clash will be the first-ever competitive meeting between the two sides since AFC Wimbledon’s formation.

Key Events

  • THREE changes for Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon
  • The Owls could move into the play-offs with a win
  • First-ever competitive meeting between Sheffield Wednesday and AFC Wimbledon
  • Darren Moore’s side are looking to record back-to-back wins in the league for the first time since August

Wildsmith parries an initial effort following a Wimbledon counter attack but the ball falls to Nesta Guinness-Walker on the edge of the box, who smacks it home.

Whole stadium is lifted following that strike. Game has opened up - Saido Berahino is coming on, too.

That should perhaps be three. The Owls are finding their groove and another through ball finds Hunt on the overlap. His cross is nodded down by Paterson and falls to Wing around 10 yards out, but he blasts over on the half-volley.

Lewis Wing rises to connect with Jack Hunt’s cross but he misses the ball after what we presume was a nudge in the back. The ref points to the spot, which takes most of the stadium by surprise.

Gregory converts the subsequent spot kick into the bottom right corner, sending the keeper the wrong way.

Dons immediately roll the dice with a double change.

Another big chance for the home side

Yet again a Wimbledon player is free in the Owls boxing during a set piece. The ball lands at the feet of Ayoub Assal, who has been lively all afternoon, but it seems to take him by surprise and he can’t make the most of it. A lucky getaway.

Tempo has gone up a notch with the game beginning to open up.

Paterson the pantomime villain

Paterson is down to a chorus of boos from the home crowd after being caught by an elbow by a Dons defender. In truth, there wasn’t much in it and the Scot went down a little easily.

Owls practising the dark arts with 40 still to play...

Another chance, another offside

Bannan threads one through to Wing with one of those lovely passes he has in his armoury, but the flag is up with the former Millers man bearing down on goal.

Bannan has been excellent in possession all afternoon.

Jaden Brown with an early chance, but he heads it over before the offside flag is raised.

Wildsmith - 6

Hunt - 7

Iorfa - 7

Dunkley - 6

Palmer - 6

Dele-Bashiru - 7

Bannan - 7

Wing - 6

Brown - 6

Paterson - 6

Gregory - 7

A successful first 45, but Wimbledon have scored 82 per cent of their goals in the second half.
