The Sheffield Wednesday 10-year season ticket explained - what it costs, how it works and how promotion to the Premier League would extend it

The release has left one or two supports scratching their heads as to how it all works – so let’s take a closer look.

How does it all work?

In essence, the 10-year season ticket is provides its owner with a seat at the first decade of Premier League football at Hillsborough starting from their next promotion.

Until that top tier status arrives, the holder essentially takes their seat for nothing – whether that takes one year, five years or 50 years.

A minimum of 15 seasons are covered in the deal, meaning that if Wednesday were promoted at the end of this – the 2019/20 season – 10-year season tickets holders will be awarded an extra five ‘bonus’ seasons on top of the 10 that kick in on promotion. If the club are promoted in 2020/21 they’ll receive four bonus seasons, and so on.

Can you buy it as a business or family ticket? What if a holder passes away while it’s still valid?

Tickets can be bought for individuals or businesses and the name can change on a season-by-season basis if validated by the club.

Any supporters that pass away while the 10-year season ticket is valid can transfer the name to somebody else, or the club will offer a refund to the deceased’s family for the remaining years.

Can a holder sell it back if they decide they don’t want it anymore?

Yes. Buyers aren’t fully tied-in to the full period and can sell the seat back to the club each season for re-sale, but how much they’ll get depends on a number of factors. No full refunds are available.

The club website says: “If you are unable to use your ticket, you can sell the respective year back to the club and we can sell on the seat. This will carry an administration fee depending on the area of the ground and the number of tickets sold back.

“Whilst in the Championship the price would be based on a 10th of the fee paid (eg £4,550/10 = £455) and in the Premier League, the cost will depend on the price at that time.”

What if Mr Chansiri sells the club? Would the season ticket still be valid?

Yes. The club have confirmed that in the case of any change of ownership the owners would have to honour the terms of the 10-year season ticket.

How much does it cost and how can I get one?

Seats on the Kop are available for £4,550, North Stand and Grandstand for £5,550 and in the South Stand for £6,400.

All purchases are to be paid in full.
