While Tony Pulis was the man who actively sought Sam Hutchinson’s return to Sheffield Wednesday, the tough-tackling midfielder is still thought to be keen on a Hillsborough homecoming.

The 31-year left the Owls last season after making over 150 appearances for the club, but there has been talk for a few weeks now that he may be on his way back.

Pulis was public about the fact that he thought Wednesday were missing the midfielder following his exit, and said at one point, “The club has missed Hutchinson, who sat there with a presence and was a threat for us… He was a good player for this football club.”

With that in mind, rumours started to swirl that the former Chelsea man might be on his way back to Sheffield, and fuel was added to that fire after it was confirmed that he had terminated his contract with Pafos FC in Cyprus ahead of the January transfer window.

When Pulis left, however, questions were asked whether the fan favourite could be on the way to S6 after all, but The Star understands that he would still be open to the idea of donning the blue and white shirt again if given the chance.

It is thought that Hutchinson, even after the decision to fire the man who originally instigated a proposed move, would still be interested in a Hillsborough return, but only time will tell whether it happens or not.

Wednesday recently added Andre Green to their ranks, and it may be that ‘Hutch’ would be up for joining him as a new addition – whichever manager comes in next.
