After some summer downtime, the Owls are down in Wales working hard on a preseason training camp. On what has been their first day back, the club’s media team released a handful of images showing what the squad are up to.

Here are just a few things we noticed..

There are some real players in that squad..

A single image of many of the central senior players in the Wednesday squad showed Chey Dunkley, Josh Windass, Liam Palmer, Andre Green, Dominic Iorfa, Barry Bannan, Sam Hutchinson and Massimo Luongo.

All in one place, it’s an encouraging image.

These are experienced, talented players, many of whom have top tier experience. In Hutchinson, Dunkley, Iorfa, Green and Luongo are a quintet that played half a season or less for Wednesday last time out. Get them fit consistently and they will provide a nearly new spine of a team.

Youngsters

It was no secret that several youngsters were to join Darren Moore’s men on their preseason camp and it was nothing particularly new either, with many juniors having made the trip to Loughborough with Garry Monk last summer.

The likes of Korede Adedoyin, another one back from long-term injury, was pictured, along with Ciaran Brennan, Charles Hagan and Alex Hunt. Owls boss Darren Moore has already spoken about the opportunity for these starlets to play themselves into first team contention and with holes in the squad at current, there will be chances.

Senior man Callum Paterson was photographed sharing a joke with some of the youngsters. It’s enough to warm your heart.

Leading off

It’s impossible to get anything like an idea of the session from just a few photographs.

In the opening days of last preseason, departed sports and medicine guru Tony Strudwick lead the charge, putting the players through their paces fitness-wise in what Barry Bannan described at the time as a ‘beasting’.

For a start, balls were seen at today’s session, and it seemed for a while at least as if assistant manager Jamie Smith had taken charge.

Small numbers

Again, it’s very doubtful all players were photographed, but they did look thin on the ground.

As expected, Osaze Urhoghide was not present as well as the other players confirmed to be leaving the club in the coming weeks.

Wednesday will want to swell those numbers considerably heading into their season opener on August 7.

Macron

Confirmation of a switch in kit supplier came as something of a surprise last week, but hit a positive note among supporters.

The images released from the camp offered a first glimpse of the new Macron gear – though these are understood to only be temporary – and again the response on social media at least was largely positive.

The move could land the club with a healthy cash windfall.

Hutchinson hair

Midfield enforced Sam Hutchinson appears to be sporting a Phil Foden / Paul Gascoigne effort having dyed his hair blonde.

It appears to be all the rage. How does it look on Hutch? That’s not for us to say..
