"Rooney never broke sweat" - Sheffield Wednesday fans have their say on 3-1 defeat to Derby County

It was another bad day at the office for Sheffield Wednesday as they were beaten 3-1 by Wayne Rooney’s Derby County at Hillsborough on Saturday.

The Rams raced into a three-goal lead in the opening 30 minutes through a Tom Lawrence brace and Jason Knight before substitute Josh Windass scored a consolation for Garry Monk’s side in the second half.

Wednesday have now only won once at Hillsborough since December 22 when victory over Bristol City lifted them up into third in the Sky Bet Championship.

Now, just over two months later, the Owls have fallen to 12th place having lost eight of their last 13 matches.

They remain eight points adrift of the play-off spots.

Speaking after the game, an angry Monk said this was the most difficult period in his managerial career and was hugely frustrated at inconsistency and individual errors from his players.

On Twitter, Wednesday fans were far from complimentary about their side’s performance too.

@spadger09 City on Wednesday. Brentford away Saturday, there at the end today. White jacket brigade might have to catch up with me. If the players showed as much passion and dedication to the club as the fans we’d be p****g the league. Alas we live in hope, which as they all say kills you

@Rhodesinio Would rather watch the old Stuart Gray team than this shower that is being served up recently! At least they would give 110%! #swfc

@RobShirley6561 Guardiola must be bricking it #swfc

@Northstandgent So the next six games are all top nine teams. On current form I just can’t see where the next win is gonna come from! #swfc

@mrpaulhank Holding back on the manager debate but 4-2-4 ? Lee/Bannan our midfield. Asking for trouble ...overrun an understatement....Rooney never broke sweat #swfc #wawaw

@thorney811 A slow start topped off with huge errors of our own doing handed the game to Derby. Monk made changes at half time and we were the better side in the second half but gave ourselves a mountain to climb - Windass and Iorfa the two positives to take from today #swfc

@WOTMTPaul I am no Monk fan but if you say “go out there and do your job” and people don’t then that’s different gravy #swfc

@_ElliottJackson Nobody knows if Monk is the man who can lead the club to the Premier League. However, he doesn’t have the tools at his disposal to prove whether he’s the man for the long-term or not right now. He deserves that opportunity. He deserves the summer to adapt the squad. #SWFC

@nicolarowlinson So normal service resumed. First game for ages I was actually looking forward to, and they did this! Derby weren’t even a good side #Swfc

@Dan_the_owl Bannan got a lesson in how to sit deep and dictate a game today. Rooney never broke from walking pace and absolutely ran the tempo of the game #SWFC #dcfc
