Callum Paterson’s second half goal was enough to secure all three points against Wayne Rooney’s Rams side, who before going behind had dominated possession and created the better chances.

The win – a third over the Christmas period and has seen the Owls yield 10 points out of 12 – means caretaker boss Neil Thompson’s men have leapfrogged Nottingham Forest and tonight’s opponents to move into 20th place on goal difference.

It is also the first time in over a year that Wednesday have recorded back-to-back league victories.

So, what did the Owls faithful make of tonight’s win in front of the Sky Sports cameras?

Let’s take a look at what they’re saying on Twitter.

@paulandrews22 We all thought Chansiri was mad talking about the play-offs. What do we know

@JSMcLoughlin Rode our luck today, but who cares. A win is a win. 10 points out of a possible 12 and back to back wins

@ChrisAsh1975 Just when you're about to chuck in the towel on 30 years of supporting @swfc, they return an incredible 10 points from 12 over Xmas with some gritty performances! UTO!!

@Beardhiker Things went our way tonight. Finally a bit of luck

@MikWarner Ten points from four games, on our way

@aylesburyowl Best team in Championship in 2021

@RichBeev I’m all for the ugly 1-0 wins! Plus we never beat Derby either.

@GeoffSWFC I absolutely battered @Moses_28 for what happened (at Forest) but have to give him enormous credit. He’s been great since he came back in.

@RickyALswfc Give it Tommo til the end of the season

@SWFCSteveBrown We’re awful, we know we are, we’ve assembled possibly the worst squad in our history, we’re dominated by the opposition week in week out, we haven’t seen a decent performance for nearly 18 months, but we’re ****housing our way to survival, you lot better learn quickly

@RocketOwl1986 Tom Lees is one of those players all of our fans take for granted. He’s had his bad spells under Jos and a few under Monk when they tried to make him something he’s not. When he’s asked to defend and do things simply, he’s a brilliant CB at this level and still is

@RichLido Not entirely sure how we got away with that but another three points and it’s a Happy New Year. Much work to be done in January but a win will be a confidence boost

@RussAmos333 Well battled lads! Good to see the spirit is still there. Get @LiamShawww on a long term contract ASAP

@paul_deehan Good news, very fortunate in the first half, rode our luck. Yet scraped a win. Well done lads

@Justom29 Kadeem Harris was class tonight

@DaveStoneface Three massive points and a clean sheet. Not a great performance but at this time every point counts. Well done boys.
