It’s important… If you’re at a club that has an academy, what’s the point if you can’t use it?

Alex and Shawy have excelled a little bit more, the others are coming through as well. In normal situations we might look for loans, but it’s a case of needs must for us this season. I’m delighted for them.

Great ball in from Palms… We wanted to get early crosses in. We knew if we kept doing that with the right quality and that’s where Kacha’s goal game from.

It’s good to get 90 minutes people’s legs, and some debuts too.

They’re first team players… In terms of changes, I didn’t have any worries. It was important to get minutes, we put a lot of energy into Saturday and we’re still in what would be another week of preseason.

We have to be mindful of that - the squad is going to be needed.

I thought we were excellent… I like Rochdale, I like what Brian is doing, so I knew we were going to be tested.

We pressed really well. In the second half we stepped up and dominate. The goals, the chances, the young lads… I thought the energy and fitness shone through.

And that’s it! Dale 0-2 Owls

A youthful Wednesday win 2-0 courtesy of Elias Kachunga’s header and a Josh Windass effort from a well-worked Adam Reach free-kick in the closing stages to book their place in the third round. A thoroughly deserved win and an impressive performance from Garry Monk’s men, who really turned the screw in the second half.

Here’s that Windass goal . . .

At last! Windass has his goal . . .

Windass has his goal with two and a half minutes to go! Fantastic finish straight from the training ground. A brilliantly worked free kick from Reach which sees Windass firing in his shot into the top corner. Get in!

Windass ‘misses a sitter'

Windass has looked extremely lively since coming on as a second half substitute but somehow has now goal for his efforts and won’t remember this effort with a great deal affection after missing from close range following a great ball from Palmer.

It’s the man Bazunu who’s called into action again to deny Windass, while just moments later Borner flicks a header wide. Another opportunity for the Owls. They need that second to make the closing stages a lot more comfortable.
