Two games, two wins, two clean sheets and 22 different starters - Thoughts from Joe

The last few days have been pretty good, haven’t they?

There were a whopping 10 Sheffield Wednesday graduates in tonight’s matchday squad, and a couple of senior debuts, but the lads still came out with another clean sheet and also got another couple of goals.

We could really ask for more really. Garry Monk has been preaching attitude and change and hunger, and everybody has shown that so far. You can’t fault anybody. Even those that haven’t been outstanding in performance, have been outstanding in effort, and that is what everyone has wanted to see.

I think what impressed me most tonight was how the youngsters put their hands up. Alex Hunt, Liam Shaw and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru in particular were all excellent and not at all out of their depth, they’re making sure that they’re going to play a role this season - and that’s great news for the club.

No, we’re not getting carried away. Yes, there’s still a lot more to be done. But while the going is good and the positives are many, Wednesdayites should enjoy this new-look SWFC situation. - Joe Crann

'Plenty of players did themselves justice tonight' - Sheffield Wednesday fans' verdict on Rochdale win

Sheffield Wednesday booked their place in the Carabao Cup third round with an assured performance to defeat Rochdale 2-0 at Spotland this evening.

We all wanted it to happen and the possibility has been there a long time… We wanted it done earlier, but he knew that he was coming into a group that wanted to be at a different level - so he did the work to the best of his ability.

Minutes like Saturday, like today, will do him the world of good.

He’s great, a good pro, and he’s been here a long time. He can speak to the young lads.

Maybe before he’s felt a bit comfortable, now there’s competition, and we need more senior ones like him around the group.

It’s not changing the work, it’s adding to it… Now I have my own staff I have a bit more freedom, they can implement it straight away.

It gives me the freedom to go and work with separate units… Hold different meetings, more of them, it’s how I work. That’s probably where the improvement has come, but I still see a lot of things that need to be improved.

We knew they’d be tested, but they handled it well. They were jsut great, and that’ll do them the world of good.

We had a joke with Ciaran, he was checking his phone and we he was checking the comments already. We made Granty do a speech.

It’s about lifting that spirit.

They’re both long trips! We’re just focusing on ourselves…

I just spoke to Adam, he was so unfortunate not to score. He deserved more and was very unlucky not to have them.

Four clean sheets now if you include Leicester, and the attitude is what I’m most pleased about. It’s been excellent so far.

It all depends on where the squad ends up.
