The Star understands accessibility was the deciding factor, with the size of the car park at the nearby Owlerton Stadium meaning it has been chosen as a more suitable base for the testing centre, along with better access to entrances and exits.

Hide AdSheffield Wednesday were busy looking into the feasibility of playing host to the base, which would have seen a test centre set up beneath the South Stand walkway close to the player’s entrance.
It is understood that the plans would have seen patients arrive via the Penistone Road entrance before leaving onto Leppings Lane. Patients would have been swob-tested in their cars with no contact, though contingencies were being put in place in order to safeguard the premises.
The plans come as the Government aims to open 50 ‘drive-through’ test centres by the end of the month.

Hide AdYesterday health secretary Matt Hancock opened the testing centres up to all essential workers on a referral basis only.
“We can make it easier faster and simpler for any essential worker in England who needs a test to get a test,” he said.
“From today employers of essential workers will be able to go on gov.uk to get a test for any of their staff who need a test.
“And from tomorrow any essential workers who need a test will ve able to book an appointment themselves on gov.uk directly.”
