Sheffield Wednesday have reportedly taken an interest in Charlton Athletic striker, Chuks Aneke, but it sounds like he may well be off the market.

Aneke, 27, will see his current contract with the Addicks expire at the end of this month, and Wednesday were one of many clubs who have been linked with a potential move for the former Arsenal youngster.

But the Owls, as well as other reported admirers such as Middlesbrough, Coventry City and Queens Park Rangers, may well be wasting their time, with Nigel Adkins explaining that his players have told him that they want to stick around.

Speaking to the South London Press, the Charlton boss said, “We released three, and the others I wanted to stay at the football club… They and their agents are in negotiation with Steve Gallen, who is representing our football club in those negotiations and our budget.

“They have all said to me they want to stay, which is a big thing. But the business side of it has got to be done in terms of concluding their contracts.

“All I can do is tell them I want them to stay – that they have got a place to be if they want to be here.”

Wednesday, meanwhile, remain in the process of trying to sort out the unpaid wages situation at the club as well as filing the accounts required to lift their reported embargo – issues that will no doubt be causing major issues for Darren Moore’s ongoing recruitment process at the club.
