It was hardly a year of rockets and pearlers from the Owls, but the time has come to pick your strike of the calendar year as we say goodbye to 2020…

We whittled down the goals that Wednesday scored over the last month to four that we thought were special, either because of the quality of the goal, or the occasion and way in which it was scored. So here goes:

Atdhe Nuhiu v Leeds United

Firstly, it was a really nicely worked team goal. Barry Bannan finding Adam Reach, who pulled it back for Nuhiu to expertly place it into the top left corner of the goal. But secondly, it was against Leeds, and it was in the dying embers of the game with Wednesday holding on. There were limbs in the away end.

Jacob Murphy v Queens Park Rangers

This one was just a bit of quality from Murphy… He was a top performer for the Owls in the second half of last season, and he took his goal against QPR beuaitfully, bending it into the top corner after getting the ball just outside the box.

Adam Reach v Blackburn Rovers

It’s been a while since there’s been a Reach cracker to celebrate, but he tried to start making up for lost time with his effort against Blackburn. A mistake from the hosts saw the ball drop to his feet, and from about 25 yards out he superbly bent it around the ‘keeper with that wand of a left foot.

Liam Shaw v Middlesbrough

It snook into 2020 as SWFC’s final goal of the year on Tuesday night, but was special because it was the 19-year-old’s first goal for his boyhood club. He’s a born and bred Wednesdayite, scoring in front of the (sadly empty) Kop, and you could see what it meant to him. Also, it was an absolute peach of a ball in from Bannan, and he finished it off like a pro.

Who would you go for? And let us know at @TheStarOwls if there are any strikes you think should have been included that weren’t...
