Rangers and Wrexham set for transfer moves on Sheffield Wednesday senior man Yan Valery amid wide interest
Tunisia international Yan Valery is the latest player known to be the subject of transfer interest as Sheffield Wednesday seek to raise funds from player sales this month, The Star understands.
The Owls are hoping to recoup transfer fees to safeguard against any threat of the administration process being extended and the financial hurdles that would present. The January transfer window presents the final chance for administrators to do so and player exits from a threadbare squad are likely.
As revealed by The Star, youngster Yisa Alao is close to sealing a six-figure switch to Chelsea, while the club knocked back a bid for Bailey Cadamarteri from Scottish outfit Hibernian. Interest in the young forward remains, while skipper Barry Bannan considers his future amid interest from a host of clubs. Other players are also of admiration.
The Star understands versatile senior man Yan Valery is another player with serious interest from elsewhere and can reveal that Rangers and Wrexham are among the clubs expected to make bids before the window is out. Millwall, who are believed to also hold an interest in both Bannan and Cadamarteri, are also believed to be among a number of admirers.

Glasgow side Rangers are managed by former Owls boss Danny Röhl, who was the central consideration in Valery’s decision to join Wednesday in the summer of 2023 after they shared time together at Southampton. It’s understood that Rangers also made an enquiry as to the availability of Wednesday defender Max Lowe earlier in the transfer window.
The Star understands Wrexham had been interested in Valery last summer as players considered their options amid the prospect of contract walkouts. The 26-year-old - who manager Henrik Pedersen admitted could miss out on this weekend’s trip to Bristol City through injury - is a hugely important figure for the struggling side, having played 21 times across a range of positions either side of his involvement in the African Cup of Nations.
Speaking ahead of the trip to Bristol, Pedersen said: “There has been a bid for Bailey and there has been a bid for Yisa and this is all that I know. I know there is a lot of interest for more of our players. There will be more interest, of course there will. Let’s see what happens. Right now I don’t know more. I can only say I really, really, really hope we can keep our players because we don’t have many. It could be nice to keep who we have.”
