It remains to be seen whether Sheffield Wednesday will retain the services of loan duo Matty Fryatt and Connor Wickham beyond their initial loan deals.
Plenty of plaudits were showered on the duo after the Owls emphatic victory over Reading.
Although Fryatt and Wickham have undoubtedly added extra goal threat to the club’s attack, former Wednesday skipper Darren Purse believes two other members of Dave Jones squad could inspire a revival.
Purse is acutely aware of Roger Johnson and Stephen McPhail’s capabilities, having played alongside the duo when Jones was in command of Cardiff City.
Johnson, on loan from Wolves, is set to return to the League One club in January while McPhail’s short-term deal at Hillsborough also runs out in the New Year.
“They are two top quality players,” Purse told the Green’Un. “Stephen is a really nice bloke and a very intelligent footballer.
“Roger is 100 per cent committed every time he goes into training and out on to the pitch. His attitude is unbelievable.”
