'Pulis has got a big job on his hands' . . . 'Welcome to S6 Tony' - Sheffield Wednesday fans' verdict on 1-0 defeat at Preston North End

The Tony Pulis era at Sheffield Wednesday got off to the worst possible start this afternoon as he saw his 10-man Owls side slip to a 1-0 defeat against Preston North End at Deepdale.

Wednesday failed to register a single shot on target and were reduced to 10 men after Josh Windass' 17th-minute red card for a dangerously high challenge on North End’s Joe Rafferty.

Tom Barkhuizen’s 48th minute goal was enough to secure the win for Alex Neil’s men, their first points of the season on home turf.

The defeat leaves the Owls still in 23rd place, with only goal difference separating them from bottom club Derby County.

Here’s the thoughts of a selection of Wednesdayites on Twitter following this afternoon’s defeat in Lancashire.

@Gbucko92 Let's hope the @swfc cap sales soar, because we need capital to bolster this squad! Pulis has got a big job on his hands, and boy does he know it! #pulis #swfc #fightforsurvival

@ShandyDHarrison Following a successful stint as a world class centre half, a particular highlight for me was Odubajo on the left wing. #swfc

@hughseejay Would help if we could stop having someone sent off every match #swfc

@Darren_Hale One shot on target for both sides pretty much summed that game up. Pulis must be thinking, what have I taken on here!?? #swfc

@Stento1867 At time when they needed to stand up and be counted for, yet again to many of them just let the game pass them by. He’s got some job on, has Tony #swfc

@Afoxich People comparing Pulis to Monk after 60 minutes with 10 men. I’m more confident than before the match after watching that, we will be fine with TP as manager. Certainly need a goal scorer mind. #SWFC

@Mickb61 Don’t get me wrong I was as keen as anyone to get Westwood back involved but let’s be realistic he shouldn’t have gone straight back into the team. It’s the other end of the pitch that remains a bigger concern though.

@OR19922 I’d be astounded if we finish anywhere but bottom six. Pulis has got a lot to do with this side. Can’t see Odubajo playing when everybody is fit. Catenaccio football at its finest like it was under Gray. Long road to the magic 50 points. #swfc

@TheBartman277 Bannan deserves dropping next match. Terrible performance from him. #swfc

@stinkypete321 Just when you think it cant get more depressing...you watch that #swfc

@shefqi Game effectively ended for win purposes after the Windass sending off. Borner excellent today. Bannan absolutely woeful. Players kept going right till the death. #swfc

@tezowl Change of manager but the same old Wednesday. Stupid sending off and a mistake by the keeper. Welcome to S6 Tony #swfc

@SteelOwl There really isn't one single player of ours that we'd miss, apart from Luongo, if we got rid of them. Doubt any of them are Championship level. Not a brain cell between them as far as football is concerned. #SWFC

@mark42swfc I’ve said it all season and I’ll say it again. I’ll snap your hands off for fourth bottom. Very tough season ahead and I don’t think our players have the stomach for it tbh. Ridiculous amount of games coming up between now and 2nd Jan. Good luck TP #swfc
