Owls defender, Julian Börner, thought he’d put the hosts back in front not long after Preston had equalised with around 15 minutes to go, but it was chalked off after Joey Pelupessy was adjudged to have been impeding goalkeeper, Declan Rudd.

Neil, speaking to the media after the game, said that they were fortunate to get the decision, but insisted that it was the right one from referee, Tony Harrington.

The former Barnsley man said, “We’ve been talking about fine margins, and we probably got a little bit of fortune… Albeit it is a freekick on Declan for the second goal, but sometimes you don’t get those decisions. So we got that one, and that kind of swung the game in our favour. Our second two finishes were fantastic to finish the game off.”

He also praised his substitutes – who scored and assisted all three of their goals – for their impact, saying, “First half we were fantastic, we could have been 4-0, 5-0 up, we had plenty of opportunities. On another night we could have been 4-0 up at half-time and in the second half we didn’t get up to tempo quick enough before their goal changed the game.

“We went very aggressive with the changes to try and force the issue and the lads who came on had a really big impact.”

Preston are now eighth with four games to go, while SWFC are 16th.
