Walton, who spent last season on loan with Blackburn Rovers from Brighton & Hove Albion, is back in full training again after missing the start of the season due to injury, and reports elsewhere had linked him with a possible January loan move to Hillsborough.

Monk’s first choice goalkeeper, Cameron Dawson, had come in for some criticism after some below par performances from the side, and the decision had been made to bring Joe Wildsmith into the starting XI to face Wycombe Wanderers.

The Wednesday boss has appeared to pour cold water on the situation though, with Dawson and Wildsmith expected to keep fighting it out for a place between the sticks for the Owls.

When asked about Walton, Monk told the media, “I’ve not seen or heard that, I don’t know anything about that.”

He also went on to praise to two shot-stoppers he has battling it out for the number one spot, saying, “These are young goalkeepers that have come through this club. They’re Sheffield Wednesday lads - we should be proud to have that at our club.

“With younger ones there will be turbulence, but they’re Sheffield Wednesday through and through, and I think they both have the capabilities to go on and have great careers for this club.

“I want to encourage that, and of course they know that they have to perform and deliver. That consistency needs to be there.”

Wednesday chairman, Dejphon Chansiri, has stated that there will be money to spend in January if it is needed, however did stress that – in the current climate – it would of course be better to not have to dig too deeply into his pockets.

The Owls now have a couple of weeks to recover from a busy period and hopefully get some players back from injury before they return to action away at Preston North End later this month, with Liam Palmer and Callum Paterson heading off on international duty with Scotland.
