A number of other members of the squad are out of contract this summer and Monk has been speaking with the club’s hierarchy regarding who he wants to remain at Hillsborough.
Speaking ahead of the visit of Derby County to Hillsborough, the Owls boss said: “(The threat of a points deduction) shouldn't affect anything.
“There's a process in place, you can't do everything at once. The club have been spoken to and given my thoughts on some of the players to start that process.

“That's something we want to do as a club and the feedback from the players is that they want to do it as well so far and hopefully we can get those players tied up and we can move on to some of the others.”
Fletcher, who scored a dramatic winner against Charlton on Wednesday night, later revealed that talks had begun regarding his signing a new deal.
On the striker, Monk added: “I think the club is in talks with Steven and his representatives, hopefully we can get that done.
