Second half goals from Elias Kachunga, making his first start for the club since being released by Huddersfield Town, and the lively Josh Windass, a late substitute, sealed victory for Garry Monk’s men.

The Wednesday boss had selected a youthful-looking starting XI for the tie against the Sky Bet League One side, who were eventually swept aside with relative ease as the Owls secured a third round clash at either Ipswich Town or Fulham. They lock horns tomorrow evening at Portman Road.

Our Owls correspondent, Joe Crann, on Twitter wrote: “Plenty of good performances tonight, but Alex Hunt, Liam Shaw and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru all stood out for me…”

But what did Wednesdayites makes of tonight’s win? Here’s a selection of your thoughts on Twitter.

@PaulGSewell Positive vibes, sounds like the youngsters played well. Onto the big challenge - can we perform once again at Hillsborough? #swfc

@_ae19_ Only slight negative for me is it still showed our desperate desire for a clinical striker. Windass did a job, Kachunga was class working hard as nails, Rhodes can hopefully pull back some form, but we NEED a bagsman with delivery like that. Dangerous from set pieces. #swfc

@paulwoolfson Really impressed by Wednesday’s performance against Rochdale this evening. Great commitment from all the players. Makes a change from just going through the motions of a league cup tie. Definitely starting to see a very different team #swfc #wawaw

@MattSummerhill Thought plenty of #swfc players did themselves justice tonight, good team performance, pressed high, made them make errors and played with real energy. All kids can be proud of their performance. Really liked the look of FDB - confident, strong, pacy and read the game well

@x_natalie123 Didn’t realise it’d take a points deduction to get a massive feeling of optimism for what’s next. Every win, every good performance can now be seen as a positive. Let’s build on it. UP THE OWLS

@RocketOwl1986 Enjoyed that second half, played some good stuff. Dele looked at his best in that 45 mins, Reach had a good second half and Shaw looks a good prospect. Nice to see Windass bag another and Kachunga get off the mark. Nothing to moan about there #swfc

@BigAl_simon It’s nice to see a squad of #SWFC players all wanting to put the shirt on and put in a shift. Early signs this season are positive and Monk may well win around some of his critics sooner rather than later.

@TomTB1995 I don't want to get too carried away as it's a long season but I like the way we're playing. We just look composed and organised. It's actually as enjoyable as battering someone in some ways. #swfc
