That was until Lee Gregory’s turn and lay-off allowed Scotland international Paterson to curl in from the edge of the box to send the away end into a wave of relief.

Made a big and important tackle on 13 minutes to deny Caprice and showed his ability higher up the pitch by stealing it and winning a corner before half-time. Set the tempo early doors with a long and powerful run from deep within his own half and it was those runs that caused the Grecians problems whenever he was able to drive at them. But he fell out of the game as he sometimes can do and had little impact in the second half. Photo: Steve Ellis
