Paul Cook opens up on missing out on Sheffield Wednesday manager's job

The former Wigan Athletic boss, who quickly became many fans’ top choice for the position after the sacking of Garry Monk on Monday, said that despite widespread reports attributing his suitability to the role, he had not been contacted by the Owls.
Monk was sacked with Wednesday second-bottom of the table, two points from safety after their 12-point deduction for financial misconduct was halved on appeal.

Hide AdIt is believed that Cook, 53, had an interest in speaking with the club but confirmed that, as reported by The Star last week, an approach was not forthcoming.
Hugely experienced former Premier League manager of the year Tony Pulis was confirmed as the club’s new boss on Friday evening.
Asked about reports linking him to the role, Cook told Sky Sports: “No, there was never any truth in the Sheffield Wednesday one from my point of view.
“There was never any contact from Sheffield Wednesday at all.

Pulis, 62, was one of the club’s candidates understood to have spoken to the club before Monk was appointed last September.
