SHEFFIELD Wednesday this afternoon signed Charlton midfield player Jose Semedo on a three-year deal.

The 26-year-old left Charlton under freedom of contract though they wanted him to stay.

Gary Megson was keen to land the man who was the Addicks’ Player of the Year last season.

Megson said: “He has a very good reputation and comes with great recommendations.

“I spent some time with him in London after the end of the season. and he came across really well.

“He’s really keen to play for Wednesday and we’re really pleased to get him.

“He’s a holding midfield player who can play centre back as well. We have a way that we would like to play this season, and having Jose is crucial to that.”

Semedo is the Owls’ fourth summer signing, following Rob Jones, David Prutton and Julian Bennett.
