GARY Megson has confirmed that he is interested in Leicester winger Lloyd Dyer and Forest left-back Julian Bennett.
The Owls boss hopes that transfer progress can be accelerated now that Gary Teale has become the fourth player to leave Hillsborough this summer.
Tommy Spurr’s £200,000 switch to Doncaster plus the exits by mutual consent of Teale, who has signed a two-year contract at St Mirren, Paul Heffernan and Darren Potter make Megson believe that the way has been smoothed for further arrivals after those of Rob Jones and David Prutton.
“I’m really excited,” he said. “Players have left, which puts us in a better position to bring in ones I want. If we can get them, we can look look forward with some optimism.
“I’ll do the best I possibly can, with whatever I’ve got, but your expectations and targets are always dictated by the squad you’ve got.
“That’s why I’m getting really excited. We’ve had the chairman [Milan Mandaric] saying he’s going to back me financially; we’re in the market; you have to be optimistic that we’ll be able to fulfil the ambitions that we have for the club.”
On Dyer, Megson said: “Milan has really good contacts at Leicester; it’s with Milan to see if we can get any further with that.”
He also admitted: “I’ve seen that Bennett might be available. I took him from Walsall to Forest. I like him as a player. His position is one we’re looking to fill.”
