SHEFFIELD Wednesday this afternoon confirmed the departure of Rob Kelly and Billy Barr, writes Paul Thompson.

They were assistant manager and first-team coach respectively under Alan Irvine, who was sacked as boss last week.

The club say in an official statement that new manager Gary Megson wants to appoint a new backroom team.

The statement adds: “Sheffield Wednesday would like to thank Rob and Billy for their services and wish them well for the future.”

The Star understands that Megson is to appoint his former Bolton Wanderers assistant, Chris Evans, as his No 2.

Barr and Kelly took training last Thursday and Friday while the signing of Megson was being completed.

Kelly picked the starting line-up for Saturday’s match against MK Dons and took the questions at the post-match Press conference.

He admitted after the match that he did not know where his future lay.
