GARY Megson’s first game in charge of Sheffield Wednesday was ruined with an impressive 2-1 defeat by Rochdale at Spotland, writes Digital Editor Graham Walker.

Wednesday’s woes continued despite Megson’s appointment as they slipped to 14th in the table - nine points off the play offs.

Rochdale dominated the first half and Matt Done scored from close range after some good work by Scott Wiseman.

Gary Jones doubled their lead from the penalty spot after Daniel Jones fouled Done.

The Owls improved in the second half but failed to score until the dying seconds when Gary Madine headed in a Lewis Buxton cross.

Wednesday tried had in the final four minutes of injury time, but they were unable to find an equaliser.
