SHEFFIELD Wednesday boss Gary Megson could be closing in on more of the targets on his list of summer signings.
The Owls boss has already landed two in defender Rob Jones and midfielder David Prutton.
Now, Megson is looking to tie up further signings in the coming days as he seeks to formulate a squad that will turn Wednesday’s fortunes around next season.
Among those he has been linked with are Jason Koumas, Nathan Tyson and, more recently, the Rochdale pair of striker Chris O’Grady and right-back Scott Wiseman.
Meanwhile, Wednesday will play Barnsley at Oakwell on Tuesday, July 26 (7.30), a week after they have played Rotherham United at Don Valley Stadium.
Midfielder Isaiah Osbourne, who had a spell on loan at Hillsborough this season, is one of 10 players who have been released by Aston Villa.
Former Wednesday defender Ralph O’Donnell has died aged 79.
O’Donnell, born in Cudworth, was spotted playing for Upton Colliery and joined Wednesday as a 17-year-old.
He made over 180 appearances, a total that would have been higher but for twice breaking his leg. When he broke it for a third time it ended his Owls career although by then, in 1963, he was mainly playing in the reserves.
He then played five years at Buxton and during that time he was teaching in Stoke and was in charge of Stoke Boys. He was also England Schoolboys manager at Under-15 level for five years.
He had lived in Staffordshire for 30 years before moving, a few years ago, to Weymouth where he died.
