Fernando Forestieri could be available for Sheffield Wednesday's visit of Preston North End at Hillsborough on Saturday.
Owls head coach Carlos Carvalhal revealed that the former Watford forward, who picked up a hamstring strain in the win over Fulham two weeks ago, has returned to full training and will be assessed again before a decision is made.
In his pre-match press conference, Carvalhal said further checks will be made on left back Daniel Pudil, who has a similar injury, before Saturday: "Forestieri is training normal and we are waiting to see with Pudil. Fernando trained normally today and we will check on him tomorrow to see if he had any reaction."
Carvalhal also continued his theme in warning against complacency ahead of the Preston game. Expectations are rising among Wednesdayites following three wins in a row against Fulham, Newcastle United and Brentford, but the Portuguese says his team have to be on their guard when Simon Grayson brings his team to S6.
He added: "These can be dangerous games because everyone expects but we must play with the same spirit and teamwork as the last games. I'm very happy with the players, we feel more like a team and there is strong emotional environment here.
"There are signs we are getting better but in the Championship, you cannot sleep for one second because you will lose a game."
