AN influx of bets on Gary Megson in Sky Bet’s next Wednesday manager betting has seen the former Owls midfielder cut from 4/1 to 1/3 in under an hour.
Sky Bet had installed the former Bolton boss as 4/1 favourite following news of Alan Irvine’s departure from the club but that price was snapped up immediately and more money at 4/5 led the Leeds-based bookmaker to slash his odds further to 1/3.
Crisis talks were held between Alan Irvine and chairman Milan Mandaric in the wake of the Owls’ 5-3 defeat at Peterborough on Wednesday evening, which leaves the struggling League One side just five points clear of the bottom four.
Sky Bet’s Helen Jacob said: “Megson was linked with the Wednesday vacancy last time and it’s no surprise that he is being well backed. He is well qualified, available and would be a popular choice at Hillsborough. We have seen no interest in any other candidate so far.”
Ian Dowie (6/1) and Nigel Worthington (16/1) have also been linked with the vacant post.
