It’s been a week since the takeover agreement was announced and what a week it has been.
For the first time in years Wednesdayites were actively participating in transfer deadline day and looking for who we were going to sign.
The ability to sign players on a permanent contract has been a luxury The Owls haven’t been able to afford.
The fact that we are a stable enough football club to be taking the next step is testament to Milan Mandaric’s time in charge at Hillsborough.
I’ll admit I wasn’t overly excited about Mandaric taking over the club. He came with a reputation and a pending trial for tax evasion.
It’s not the credentials of a potential ‘fit and proper’ owner. He felt at the time like the lesser of two evils. Let him invest or let the HMRC wind us up.
What I’ve learned about Mandaric during his four years is that he hasn’t over promised to the fans or led us to believe we’d be playing Champions League in three years time.
He’s told us he would make us stable and take us as far as he could before selling us on.
After his acquittal I always got the sense that his love for the game had been diminished and he wanted to sell us to get out of the game but I think was being unfair to him.
The joy our promotion brought him in 2012 and his quest to find us the right owners has proved that there is more than just business in his heart.
Whatever the new owners do during their tenure, I will be grateful for what Milan Mandaric has done for Sheffield Wednesday during his era and at 2.45pm I’ll be at Hillsborough with thousands of others to show our appreciation.
