Wednesday, meanwhile, are fighting to retain their Championship status having struggled to overcome their six-point deduction.

Moore’s tenure gets underway this evening with a massive six-pointer at home to fellow relegation and Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United.

Former Hull City captain Dawson was asked on Sky Sports’ Football Show if Moore had made the right decision to accept the managerial role at Hillsborough.

“Only time will tell,” said Dawson. “Leaving Doncaster who are in a good position in League One. Can they get promoted?

"Going to Sheffield Wednesday a team who are fighting for survival with a big game tonight against Rotherham.

"It’s coming to a point now where there are games they have to win.

"Darren Moore done great at Doncaster, did well at West Brom and now has the opportunity at Sheffield Wednesday to go there and try to achieve survival.

"It’s going to be a big ask for them, so only time will tell.”
