And let’s face it, Sheffield Wednesday don’t have many of them. Kadeem Harris is one that many would expect to flourish and Adam Reach could well be granted his wish to stretch his legs out on the left, but aside from those two, out-and-out attacking wide men are looking tough to come by.
Transfer rules mean that clubs are able to sign free agents outside of the transfer window and a suppressed market has seen an increased number of players remain available on a freebie.
So let’s take a look at a handful of wingers Sheffield Wednesday could – in theory – sign tomorrow.

2. Andre Green
He was a name fleetingly linked with a move to Wednesday earlier this year, though nothing came of it. At 22, he's by far the most long-term option on this list and would bring with him a burgeoning reputation for trickery out wide. Released by Aston Villa, he spent time out on loan at Charlton last season. Photo: Paul Harding

3. Nathan Dyer
A Swansea City club legend known better to previous Owls boss Garry Monk than Pulis, Dyer was released by the Welsh club in the summer having made well over 300 appearances. Fast and a good dribbler, he won the Premier League in a loan spell at Leicester and would offer a very 'Pulis-style' wide option. Turns 33 later this month. Photo: Stu Forster

4. Bakary Sako
Here's a former player of Pulis', Bakary Sako. A short spell at FC Pafos - Sam Hutchinson's new team - ended in the summer after a four-year association with Crystal Palace, where he spent time under the new Owls boss. Was at Wolves before that. He has an eye for goal and at 32, he could represent a worthwhile short-term option. Photo: Bryn Lennon
