Former Sheffield Wednesday players Ryan Lowe and Nigel Pearson are among the early favourites to take over at Stoke City, according to the bookmakers.
The Potters dismissed Steven Schumacher on Monday following a run of two wins and three losses in the early weeks of the Championship season, with a 1-0 defeat at Oxford United signalling the former Plymouth Argyle man’s final game in charge. Overall, Stoke had won four matches in all competitions this term after advancing to the third round of the Carabao Cup with victories over Carlisle United and a thumping 5-0 triumph over Middlesbrough.
However, it was not enough to keep Schumacher in a job as Stoke hope to make an appointment soon, according to sporting director Jon Walters. Former Wednesday player Lowe is the early favourite to land the vacancy. He has been out of work since leaving Preston North End last month. He departed Deepdale after the opening game of the season, as Sheffield United claimed a 2-0 victory over North End.
Pearson spent a large chunk of his playing career at Hillsborough before going into management but he has been out of work since leaving Bristol City in October 2023. Below is the latest odds from the bookmakers for the next Stoke manager, with all correct at the time of writing.
