Fresh off their first league defeat of the season and with the chasm of an international break ahead of them, the Owls face up against QPR at Hillsborough on Saturday.

A win would see them enter the 14-day siesta on minus-five points, with seven from their four matches played. Defeat sees their matchless fortnight thrown into a different momentum.

Wednesday boss Garry Monk is expecting new signing Chey Dunkley to step up his recovery from a broken leg after a few days rest and relaxation and with young defender Osae Urhoghide having played his second match in the under-23s after a knee injury, the squad is nearing full capacity.

Asked about Dunkley’s progress, Monk said: “It's that daily progress with him and seeing how he reacts to each day as we step it up.

“He's doing very well, we've given him a few days away because he's worked so hard, just given him that refresher, then hopefully he comes back in this week and looks strong. Then he can build it up from there.”

This is the first week of the season that hasn’t seen the Owls navigate a midweek Carabao Cup clash, something Monk is keen to embrace.

“Having a week of preparation, you can go into a lot more detail,” he said. “When you've got two day turnarounds, it makes life harder.

“That's no excuse for Bristol City, these are the fine margins. But of course having a week's preparation helps you cover more basis and gives that feeling of better preparation, so we'll look to have a good week.”
