Mystery 'friend' makes 'incredibly generous' donation to Sheffield Wednesday ticket initiative
The generosity towards ticket initiative keeps on coming
A mystery ‘friend’ of Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust has made an ‘incredibly generous’ gesture towards their ticket initiative.
The trust has launched a scheme where fans can donate the cost of a season ticket to a fellow supporter who might not be as fortunate financially. There is also an option for people to donate smaller amounts towards individual match tickets. The idea came about after feedback from the fanbase.
Within a few days it has already nearly reached £28,000, including a donation of £1,867 from new Owls director Tom Costin. And now it has emerged that someone has pledged to match every gift up to £35,000, which would double the total to £70,000.
The trust explained: “A new friend of Sheffield Wednesday and the supporters’ trust, who prefers to remain anonymous, has been incredibly impressed by the outpouring of support for the effort to raise money for this important cause and has made an incredibly generous pledge to match every gift, up to £35,000, raised by supporters towards this effort.
“We’re currently on £27,910, meaning we need to raise the final £7,090 to unlock the full £35,000 contribution. If we do, a £35,000 supporter-led campaign becomes a £70,000 investment in Sheffield Wednesday supporters and young people across our community.
“That means more season tickets, more match tickets, more mascot experiences, more shirts, and the chance to reach even more children who dream of being part of Sheffield Wednesday but may never otherwise get the opportunity.
“It means creating memories with parents, grandparents and friends that will last a lifetime, helping young people feel connected to their club, their city and their community. The donor has recognised just how important family and community are in Sheffield, and wants to help open the door for the next generation of Wednesdayites.
“ That spirit is exactly what Sheffield Wednesday is about. This fanbase has already achieved something remarkable. Now we have the opportunity to turn £35,000 into £70,000.”
