Murphy Cooper's injury timeline revealed as Pierce Charles makes Sheffield Wednesday progress

Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper, Murphy Cooper, will spend the next four weeks recovering from the injury he sustained recently.

The Star reported earlier this week that the Owls loanee, who is at Hillsborough from Queens Park Rangers, had picked up a problem that would keep him out of the Steel City derby against Sheffield United, news that led to the club seeking out an emergency loan goalkeeper to deputise at Bramall Lane.

Henrik Pedersen found one in the shape of Seny Dieng, who was snapped up from Middlesbrough on Friday afternoon, and it looks like his seven-day loan will be extended for several weeks given that Cooper will be out of action for around a month as he recovers.

Interestingly, Cooper’s current absence could mean that he doesn’t actually play for the Owls again, with Pierce Charles not too far away from being available for selection once again. Pedersen told the media on Friday that he’s doing ball work once more after his shoulder injury, and the talented young stopper will be desperate to get back out on the field again as soon as possible.

Speaking ahead of the trip to Bramall Lane this weekend, the Owls boss explained that the shot-stopper would undergo all of his recovery at Middlewood Road, also saying, “We had hoped that he could come through another week, and that we could see after the derby, but there was no chance that he could train again. The scan has shown that he’ll be out for three or four weeks…

“It was nice to see Pierce taking a ball with his hands again in training. He trained really well, but let’s see if it’s one or two weeks before he’ll be back. We have Seny on a seven-day loan, which is for the next three games, and then we’ll see if we need to extend it from there.”

Wednesday take on the Blades on Sunday afternoon, and will be hoping to stave off relegation for a little bit longer by getting a result against their bitter rivals.
