Gary Megson is demanding his strikers get off the mark as soon as possible after a promising start to the club’s pre-season.
The squad returned yesterday from a training camp in Austria, which has been widely regarded a success by Megson and the players. They were back in training today ahead of Saturday’s match at Worksop Town of the Evo-Stik Premier League.
However, the goalless draw against Russian team FC Volga highlighted Wednesday’s lack of scoring options.
Megson currently has only two senior strikers - Gary Madine and Clinton Morrison - to call on.
And with the Neil Mellor situation still unresolved, the manager would like to see the net beginning to bulge sooner rather than later.
He said: “We kept a clean sheet, which was good, but I can’t remember us causing their goalkeeper too many problems and that shows where we need to improve. In terms of fitness a lot of the lads played 90 minutes after two weeks of pre-season training and we finished stronger than they did.”
n Giles Coke and Lewis Buxton will unveil the new Owls home kit today at the Crucible Theatre.
It is expected that the Gilder Group will sponsor the home shirts with Westfield Health taking the same space on the away jerseys. The six figure sponsorship deal is a joint one with Sheffield United. It is the first time the two clubs have shared shirt sponsors.
