GARY Megson has reacted to the Owls’ stoppage-time defeat at Walsall by saying: “We chucked it away.”
The team lost 2-1 to two goals in added time - nine days after a last-gasp strike by Huddersfield cost them victory.
Megson felt that though yesterday’s equaliser was deflected, scorer Claude Gnakpa should not have been allowed to reach a shooting position.
The manager was particularly unhappy with the winner - an easy chance for defender Manny Smith after Wednesday failed to deal with a simple high ball into the box.
But Megson also said: “It wasn’t just that. Up front we didn’t play well enough, didn’t get hold if it. All in all there was some good stuff in terms of the position we’re in and what we’re trying to achieve.
“But again we’ve chucked it away. We’ve thrown five points away from positions where we should have six.”
Megson admitted that yesterday’s blow was all the more frustrating as it came so soon after the lead was lost against Huddersfield.
“We have now lost five games all away. We’ve got to sort it out quickly.”
Rob Jones went off in the 56th minute with a back problem and was replaced by Miguel Llera but Megson refused to blame the captain’s absence for the late collapse.
