'Making 11 changes for the competition doesn't sit right' - Sheffield Wednesday fans' verdict on team to face Rochdale

As expected, Owls boss Garry Monk has rung the changes for tonight’s Carabao Cup second round tie against Sky Bet League One outfit Rochdale – naming a completely different starting XI from the side which won at Cardiff City on Saturday.

The stand out selections for a youthful-looking Wednesday team include a first start for summer signing Elias Kachunga in attack, 19-year-old Liam Shaw lining up in the heart of defence and a debut for young defender Ciaran Brennan.

On Twitter, The Star’s Owls correspondent Joe Crann writes: “There are a total of 10 #SWFC academy graduates in Wednesday’s matchday squad today - five of them start.

Young. Hungry. Dynamic.”

Here’s how some fans on Twitter have reacted to Monk’s team selection.

@clurrrrxhx Perfect team for tonight. Plenty of changes, youthful... come on Wednesdayyyyyy

@krisvoakes The League Cup will never be pointless to me. The only trophy my club has won in my lifetime was the League Cup, and the idea of making 11 changes for the competition doesn't sit right.

@L0RD_H Wholesale!!!

@LiamK2292 11 changes from the weekend... Still don’t like how GM still thinks Reach is a striker.

@joeyy_stack1727 Exactly the way, right sort of team to pick - with any luck we’ll be out of this pointless cup in a couple of hours and can concentrate properly on the league and keeping everyone ready for that #swfc

@_hazzy Good to see some youngsters getting a run out, be nice to keep the momentum going, but getting some game time as important, long season, survival only priority

@dankitson2003 I mean not too bothered about result but good for youngsters to get game time

@_CharlieThePooh Pretty decent line up for a cup game tbh, might have been nice to see Rhodes but makes sense to keep him fit and rested for a big old hat-trick Saturday
