Saido Berahino, Lee Gregory and Barry Bannan gave the Owls a 3-0 lead in the first half before Tottenham Hotspur loanee Troy Parrott pulled one back for MK Dons before the break.
Though Darren Moore’s side were defensively disciplined throughout the second period, Scott Twine’s injury-time free-kick set up a nervy finish after the fourth official indicated there would be 10 minutes added on.
But fortunately for Wednesday the hosts couldn’t capitalise and they move up two places to fifth.

13. Lee Gregory - 7
Should have given Wednesday the lead moments before Berahino's goal but atoned with a clever run and half-volley for their second goal of the night. Eleven goals now and looks a more astute signing with every one he scores. Photo: Steve Ellis
14. Nathaniel Mendez-Laing - N/A
Replaced Gregory late on with little time to make an impact, but did manage a brilliantly well-timed tackle on an MK Dons player to halt a dangerous attack. Photo: Steve Ellis
