Much has been made of the Owls’ tightening of their belts when it comes to spending in recent months, with nine new players having come through the door.

Only the signings of forwards Josh Windass and Callum Paterson, at a round £500,000 each, have seen Wednesday spend cash.

Speaking ahead of his side’s trip to Hillsborough, Jones’ intimated that the club’s forward line alone is as expensively assembled as his whole squad.

“They’ll have a big budget,” Jones said. “The strike force they’ve got would probably be our entire budget, so they’re a dangerous side.

“The fact that they have had points deductions, I’m not competing on that, but they have experienced players and enough quality in the side to hurt Championship sides, established Championship players.

“Paterson, they have Marriott now, who they would’ve had to pay a lot of money for. Jordan Rhodes, who’s established and as prolific a Championship striker as you get. Josh Windass, who they paid a lot of money for, so they’ve got enough threats to hurt you and we have to be wary of that and that’s what people need to remember.”

Jones received something of a backlash from Wednesday supporters after describing Monk’s Owls as ‘very basic’ after a 1-0 defeat for his Stoke side at Hillsborough a year ago this week.

Luton arrive having lost their last two Championship matches but have won three of their opening six matches.
