Lifelong Sheffield Wednesday fan who went to his first game in 1923 dies, aged 104

Jesse Webb attended his first match at Hillsborough way back in 1923 and continued watching the Owls into old age.

A social media post from Sheffield Wednesday said the club were “saddened” to learn of his passing.

One supporter wrote: “RIP Jesse, another owl flies high #wawaw.”

Another wrote: “RIP Jesse. As football fans, we can only dream of following the team close to our hearts for as long as you did.”

And another said: “Imagine attending your first game in 1923? That’s a legend”.

The club’s post read: ”Sheffield Wednesday are saddened to learn of the passing of lifelong supporter Jesse Webb at the age of 104.

“Jesse attended his first game at Hillsborough in 1923 and in his latter years would watch us away at Ipswich Town, close by to his home. RIP Jesse.”
