League One manager departs after promotion and trophy success - suffered Sheffield Wednesday hammering
Latest League One news...
There’s been a shock managerial departure in League One.
Sheffield Wednesday thrashed newly-promoted Bromley 7-2 at Hillsborough in August and now the Ravens have parted ways with popular boss Andy Woodman.
The 55-year-old leaves after overseeing the club’s most successful period, winning two promotions and the FA Trophy in five-and-a-half years, Woodman not only led Bromley into the Football League for the first time in their 132-year history after winning the National League play-offs, but also took them into League One after clinching the League Two title last season, earning him the League Two Manager of The Year award last season. They also reached the FA Cup third round for the first time in 2025.
But they have found life tough in the third-tier. Tuesday night’s 4-0 home defeat to Leicester City left them second from bottom but only one point from safety. As well as their Hillsborough hammering, they also got thumped 5-0 by Leyton Orient.
In a statement on Thursday, Bromley said Woodman is to depart ‘with immediate effect following the mutual termination of his contract.’
Owner Robin Stanton-Gleaves said: “I would firstly like to offer my sincere thanks to Andy for all he has achieved during his time with us. It’s no surprise that this club has reached new heights and Andy has been fundamental in helping us achieve that.
"I would like to reassure our supporters that we will be entering this new chapter with the same ambition and determination to keep moving this football club forward. On a personal note, Andy has been a pleasure to work with, and I wish him all the best for the future.”
Byron Webster will now take charge on an interim basis whilst the club search for a permanent replacement.
